Wahyu Prasetyo Utomo is an lecturer/assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Surabaya, Indonesia. He received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the Department of Chemistry in 2012 under the supervision of Dr. Afifah Rosyidah. During the 4th year of his undergraduate study, he simultaneously joined the master studies in the same department starting from 2011 under Fast track program. After completing the master’s degree under Prof. Hamzah Fansuri's supervision in 2014, he subsequently joined the department as a lecturer, focussing on inorganic chemistry. During his period as a lecturer, he actively joined conferences and workshops, such as joining the ASEAN workshop on X-ray absorption Spectroscopy in 2016 in Synchrotron Light Research Institute (SLRI), Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, and subsequently performing the XAS measurements in the following year. He just completed his Ph.D. from the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), City University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Yun Hau Ng and Dr. Hao Wu (Macao University of Science and Technology, MUST).
His research is to develop materials which include:
Nanoparticle synthesis
Thin films and heterostructure for electro- and photo-catalysis processes, focusing on energy and environmental applications: a) Ammonia synthesis from nitrate, nitrogen, and other sources, b) hydrogen production from water splitting, c) CO2 reduction, and d) photodegradation of organic pollutants.

Wahyu has authored (as the first author) publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, including Advanced functional materials (IF: 19.22), Small (IF: 15.5), Green Chemistry (IF: 9.8), etc. He was awarded as the best oral presenter in International Conference on Environmental Systems Engineering and Technology (ICESET) 2022 held by UPN Veteran Jawa Timur on 7 September 2022. He also currently serves as a chair of Indonesia Chemical Society (Himpunan Kimia Indonesia, HKI), East Java Chapter and Head of Chemistry Department, Institut Teknoogi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS)
