Welcome to Material Chemistry and Energy Laboratory, Department of Chemistry, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Surabaya, Indonesia.
Material Chemistry and Energy (MCE) Laboratory, or better known as Laboratorium Kimia Material dan Energi (Lab KME) in the Indonesian language, focuses on the development of fossil fuels efficiency and alternatives, advanced materials, and materials for energy & environment applications. The research aims to gain a fundamental understanding of this area and further approaches to practical application.
The MCE laboratory is recognized by ITS as a Lab-based education, meaning that the lab simultaneously integrates research activities with the teaching process, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Therefore, students can have a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical knowledge they get in the class with current research updates. In addition to the class and research activities, student members in the MCE lab are involved in social and industrial activities, including community services and internships, facilitated by the laboratory to widen their perspectives and to interact closely with society.
Currently, Prof. Dr. Drs. Djoko Hartanto, M.Si., serves as the head of the laboratory with eight members in total. The researchers' members, consisting of three professors, four associate professors, and a lecturer/assistant professor, actively conduct research and publication, which simultaneously involves the students in research and learning experiences.

13 December 2024 -- Wahyu Prasetyo Utomo, Ph.D was elected as a Head of Chemistry Departement, term 2025-2029. Dr. Wahyu will officially start his new role on 02 January 2025. Good luck for Dr. Wahyu! We all will always support you!

During her talk, she delivered her work in Development of Mixed Matrix Membrane for gas separation and biogas enrichment.

9 September 2024 -- Wahyu Prasetyo Utomo, Ph.D. was invited as an invited speaker in the International Conference on Wetland for Sustainable Development Goals (ICWSDGs) held by Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) Banjarmasin. During his talk, he delivered his work in the developent of g-C3N4 material photocatalytic water treatment.
Lukman Atmaja, Ph.D. is now visiting the Wisconsin University, USA to initiate the research collaboration.
14 August 2024 -- Lukman Atmaja, Ph.D. visits the Wisconsin University to initiate the collaboration with the university. Under the scheme of Outbound Research Mobility (ORM), he stays for 2 weeks in the universities to obtain any opportunity for the mutual benefit.

22 July 2024 -- During the offcial visit of City University of Hong Kong (CityU)'s President in ITS, Prof. Djoko Hartanto and Wahyu Prasetyo Utomo, Ph.D. were getting involved as ITS delegation in initiating a collaboration between CityU and ITS. Prof. Djoko is actively promoting the collaboration between the CityU and ITS. While, Dr. Wahyu, as the first and only alumnus of CityU in ITS, is expected to catalyze the technical process for the collaboration. Good luck for ITS and CityU!

HKI is is a non-profit professional organization, which was established to facilitate communication between Indonesian chemists and various other professions in fields related to chemistry, and to encourage the advancement of science, education and applied chemistry. MCE-Lab obtains 110.23% of mid-year performance indicator in ITS
July 2023 -- MCE-Lab obtained more than 110.23% in the performance indicator graded by ITS during the mid-year of 2023 (January-June 2023).
