Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Irmina Kris Murwani is a full professor in the heterogeneous catalyst. She belongs to the first batch of the bachelor’s degree in the Department of Chemistry ITS after its establishment in 1983. She got her masters from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and her doctor in chemistry from Humbolt Univeristät zu Berlin.

Her research interests are to develop heterogeneous catalysts, based on fluorite structure and phosphor-based materials for various applications in field energy, medicine, and pharmacy. These include, but are not limited to, the heterogeneous catalyst for palm oil conversion, Vitamin E synthesis, paracetamol synthesis, phenol acylation, hydrohalogenation, etc. She authored publications in various reputable catalysis journals, such as Journal of Catalysis, Catalysis Today, Catalysis Communication, Applied Catalysis B: Environmental, Journal of thermal analysis and calorimetry, etc.

In addition to the research, Prof. Irmina is actively involved in Indonesian Chemistry Olympiad (for university students’ level) as one of the core members in the inorganic division. One of her responsibilities is preparing the questions for the Olympiad from the regional to the national level as well as performing the judging. In 2020, Prof. Irmina, representing the ITS, successfully secured a SMART Project worth 753,401 EUR (or 11 billion IDR) funded by Erasmus+, which made her responsible for organizing 10 universities from Indonesia and European countries to strengthen the capacity building in High Education Institution, especially in Indonesia. Currently, she is acting as a member of the Academic Senate of ITS.
